Visitor information
Due to current extremely dry ground conditions, the ploughing match will not go ahead this year. The ploughing competition will be taking place instead on Saturday 14th March 2026 at Lowerstock Farm.
The Craft & Produce Competition will be taking place but there will be no trade stands, tractor rides or ploughman’s lunch. Competitors will be invited to drop off their exhibits and collect them once judging has concluded. A paid BBQ will be available for competitors to join us and socialise from 12.30.
We are sorry for any disappointment caused but look forward to our event in March.
Why is the Ploughing not going ahead?
While very dry ground can be ploughed, it can cause significant damage to both ploughs, tractors and horses. Ploughs may not be able to penetrate hard, dry ground deep enough. Ploughing very hard ground can use a lot more fuel. It’s also not great for the soil, leaving it more vulnerable to erosion, compromising soil health and damaging the soils ability to retain moisture.
