The Showground - Bathing Pond Fields

Towards the end of 2002 the Society purchased its own 120-acre site at Wraxall, near Bristol.  This picturesque site, called Bathing Pond Fields, was previously part of the late Lord Wraxall's Tyntesfield estate, now owned by the National Trust.  

So how did it get its name?  Bathing Pond Fields is so called because it has a Grade II listed Victorian Bathing Pond at its centre.  Little is known about this rare feature but it is believed that the Gibbs family, who built Tyntesfield House, also built the Bathing Pond.

As well as holding its traditional agricultural Show on the first Bank Holiday Monday in May, the Society is planning to establish an education resource on its site to cater for elements within the national curriculum such as conservation, land use, food production, health and environmental matters.  It is also hoped that the local communities will make full use of the site.
